Specials & New Julips
This page is for my specials and other new julips - including one-off special orders but not those which were painted to look like real horses, which can be found on the lookalikes page instead. These ones are just made-up colours I've chosen because they'd look good, and new or nearly-new originals I've bought just because I liked them. Remeber there are lots more on page two.
Espiridion
what's 'handsome chap' in spanish?
Here is my first ever non-lookalike special order model, the wonderful mulberry grey Andalusian, Espiridion. This is actully julip's new Lipizzaner mould, sculpted specially for julip originals by artist Cathy Spearing. Yet to feature in the catalogue, due to julip having no white hair to make white ones, several devoted collectors have already got their hands on 'lippi's', by ordering them in alternative colours and having them as Lusitano or Andalusian horses instead!
Mulberry grey is a very rare colouring only found in these two Spanish breeds, and I think it's beautiful, so I just couldn't resist asking for my julip in this lovely dhaded pale grey with a mixed chocolate brown and chestnut mane and tail.
On the right, you can see Espiridion's home-made spanish show bridle, with tasselled browband and silver detailing.

looking very posh
mr malteaser
Here is my gorgeous Arab Stallion Special, the colour of the catalogue model Malteaser, on an different mould.
A lovely shaded chocolatey brown roan, with a strikingly dark mane and tail, this arab is really handsome and unusual. I'm really pleased with how he turned out.
I've named him Tamburlaine, after an ancient king from the middle east.

(Left) Tamburlaine, modelling his home-made arab halter and chestpiece.
...remember to look at my Vintage and Lookalike Originals too...
merlin, or myrddin
A darker version of the catalogue model Flame, I got this julip second-hand but nearly new. I've named him Myrddin, pronounced murthin, which is old welsh, and can also be spelt and pronounced Merlin. He won't mind which way round you say and spell his name! He's a really striking horse, with long white socks, and a stripe (which I made longer and wide, originally he only had a short marking, which didn't suit him as well).
el marees
Bought on Ebay, this handsome arab stallion is the catalogue model Bantry Bay, but mine has had his socks adjusted - with a little black paint to make the tops uneven - and is now named El Marees (pronounced mareese, not marie's).
A really nice mould, which suits a simple colour just as well as the more unusual ones like Tamburlaine.
chestnutwhole
A handsome chestnut cob, this new chap was a random one-off model made to use up the chestnut paint in the spray gun one day, rather than waste it they paint up some models with what is left over. With a very narrow stripe, two short socks and two long socks, he was advertised without a photo on the Julip website - I took a chance and called to buy him, and was very pleased that I did, as he's really lovely.
This mould is Julip's newest, and we think they're going to name it the Irish Draft, though among julip collectors it's often called 'the Spooky Cob', because of it's alert head and sideways stance.
mighty mouse
One of the new catalogue models for autumn 2006, I got the first mighty mouse, the very one pictured in the catalogue photo. A really adorable little pony in a very pretty colour, Mighty Mouse is based on a real pony owned by Julip boss Annabel. Very popular already, this little pony is owned or admired by nearly everyone I know!
blackbird
Blackbird the frisky foal was the first in this mould to join my collection, they're bigger than I thought and very sweet. Sold as Ebony in the catalogue.
merlen teg
Another catalogue model, this is Merlen Teg. One of the members on my forum speaks Welsh, and says his name translates as 'Fair Pony'. He's a very pretty little thing, in a mould I like very much, so I couldn't resist him. I really like his little wonky stripe, it gives the models more character when they come out with quirky markings instead of all being the same.
baltizar
Baltizar was a special order early in 2006, but I got him second-hand when his first owner decided to thin out her collection a bit. A wonderfully dark and rich bay, Baltizar makes a striking Saddlebred (though the mould's real name is the Quarter Horse). I've hogged part of his mane and attached plaited ribbons, just like real Saddlebreds have for the showring.
sparky
This little foalie was my christmas present in 2006, the only time I've ever been bought a julip since I had Chance for my 15th birthday. A very sweet piebald foal, my mum chose him from the catalogue, and picked a name for him when he arrived - Sparky. He had to have a new name as he was Smartie in the catalogue - I already had a 1970's foal called that, and it wasn't fair to take his name away when he'd had it so long!
Sparky is balanced on two feet with a piece of wire hidden by his tail, propping him up in a playful frolicking pose.
George
handsome horse!
The Hunter is one of my favourite ever moulds, and I'd always admired this special-order chestnut, so I was thrilled when I was offered the chance to buy him.
George is a very handsome, sensible and kind-looking horse, his face is especially detailed as his first owner Sarah added the pink and grey nose, and also adjusted the tops of his white socks to make them more uneven and realistic. One of my very favourite Julips.
One of George's friends came with him, this stunning cob stallion was another special order, in the rare colouring known as silver dapple, a chocolate brown and blonde combination which looks amazing and very unusual. Another julip I admired very much when he belonged to Sarah, he came to live with me so she could afford some older ones she really wanted!
kittiwake
Another special one-off julip which I bought second hand, this piebald family horse was sold on ebay.
With nice unusual markings, especially her half white face and the two-tone mane, this little mare has a very sweet and slightly clueless expression on her face, like she's make a good riding school pony because she wouldn't even think of being stubborn or naughty. i've named her Kittiwake, Kitty for short.
hermes the hunter
This tall, dark and handsome chap was a special order of my own, I really wanted a hunter in an unusual but sensible colour, so I asked them for as dark a grey as they could do, and this was the result! he has a lovely faintly speckled colouring, with dark points. I'm really pleased with him, and have named him Hermes - I'd picked the name out long before he was even made so I'm glad it suited him when he got here!
miranda
awwwwww!
Miranda is named after a line I like in a song :
"Meet me on my vast veranda, my sweet untouched Miranda"
Another special order I designed just because I thought it would be a really nice julip to have, I left the markings up to Julip to decide, I just picked the mould and the colour and they made up the patches. I really love how she turned out, the markings are really unusual and realistic, right down to the matching yellow bits in the mane and tail where the palomino patches touch them.
rum truffle
This lovely chocolate brown family horse was made as a one-off at julip shortly before christmas, and advertised on the website for sale to the first person who rang up. I managed to get him, and he came in the same parcel as Hermes and Miranda. I've named him Rum Truffle - it's seasonal as he arrived just before christmas, Truffle is an animal name anyway, and he does look a bit of a rum character!
